Doublebase Emollient Bath Additive is a treatment that will help to reduce the effects of dry skin. The active ingredient in this bath additive is liquid paraffin which is an emollient. An emollient works by restoring moisture into the skin that has been lost as a result of dry skin. This treatment will soften the skin and also form a barrier over the skin to protect it from loss of hydration.

 

What causes dry skin?

Dry skin happens when the natural barrier over the skin becomes damaged and moisture escapes from the skin. This can be caused by a number of different reasons. These triggers can either be external or internal. External factors that cause dry skin include:

• Seasons – In particular, summer and winter
• Hot weather
• Cold, dry weather
• UV sunlight
• Washing the skin often
• Some soaps and detergents
• Certain types of medication

Internal factors that can cause dry skin include:

• A family history of dry skin
• Hormone changes – Such as pregnancy and the menopause
• Your diet
• Ageing
