Product Details

Canesten Cream is a treatment for fungal skin infections, such as nappy rash. It helps to relieve symptoms of itching and irritation by tackling the cause of fungal infections. It’s sensitive enough to be used on your baby’s bottom when they’re suffering from nappy rash but strong enough to provide effective relief from irritation.

What are fungal skin infections, such as fungal nappy rash?

Fungal skin infections can happen when the fungus which everyone has on their skin is given the right environment to grow. This happens in warm, damp places, like the inside of a tight-fitting shoe or in a baby’s nappy. It causes a rash which can itch and sting, making you or your baby feel irritated.

How does Canesten Cream treat a nappy rash or other fungal skin infections?

Canesten Cream uses the active ingredient Clotrimazole, which is part of a group of medicines called imidazoles. Clotrimazole is an anti-fungal treatment which fights the fungi and bacteria which cause fungal infections, such as a fungal nappy rash.

How to use Canesten Cream.

Apply a thin and even layer of Canesten Cream to the affected area two or three times every day and massage in gently. You will need around ½ a centimetre of cream for an area as big as your hand. If you are using Canesten Cream on your feet, make sure to wash and dry them thoroughly before applying, especially between your toes.

Why do I need to answer questions to buy this product?

You do not need a prescription for Canesten Cream, however, you will be asked to complete a short medical questionnaire by your Chemist-4-U pharmacist before we can take your order. This includes some simple questions that all pharmacies legally are required to ask before supplying this kind of product. This helps our pharmacy team to be sure that Canesten Cream is the best choice for you.

When should Canesten Cream not be used?

Do not use Canesten Cream if you or your baby are allergic to clotrimazole or any of the other listed ingredients. Canesten Cream is not suitable for use on nail or scalp infections. Canesten Cream can reduce the effectiveness of rubber contraceptives such as condoms or diaphragms. If you are using Canesten Cream on your vulva or penis, use an alternative method of protection for at least 5 days after using this product.

Like all medicines, Canesten Cream may have side effects, although you may not experience them. If you experience any of the following side effects, you may be having an allergic reaction and should stop using Canesten Cream immediately and seek medical help. These reactions are:

  • Rash
  • Swallowing or breathing problems
  • Nausea
  • Swelling of your lips, face, throat, or tongue
  • Weakness, feeling dizzy or feeling faint
